Reviews
I’ve been wanting to go to BRAT for a while now and so my expectations were very high. Thankfully I was not disappointed at all - the atmosphere was great and relaxed, the food was delicious and smokey and the staff were all very helpful and friendly. Everything we had was great but the grilled bread, brown crab, Brussel sprouts and (of course) the cheesecake were excellent in particular.
The place looks cute, and the food there was great. It’s a nice experience, I definitely recommend the lamb with the potatoes, it tastes amazing even though I ain’t a big fan of lamb.
The waiter was nice he was very helpful and patient to help us pick from the menu. I love the spicy margarita, unbelievably good.
Highly recommend and really want to try the Shoreditch one.
Had to try the Climpson’s Arch location after going to the original Brat, one of our favourite restaurants in London. Great ambiance, located in one of the archway viaducts, with outdoor and indoor seating. The menu changes daily, and you’re asked to take a picture at the door before you’re seated. We sat at the bar in the back of the restaurant which was lovely. Ordered the side bread & butter, roasted leeks, steak tartar, and chicken rice. Everything was delicious, but we probably wouldn’t order the steak tartar again. The cocktails were light and paired well with the food, we each got the old friend and arch negroni. Overall, I would definitely come back to this location.
Great experience! Food was really really good. Ox tounge, the bread with butter, and mallard outstanding to us. Basque cheese cake a classic that never disappoints. We were seated in the main room, so we quite smoky after leaving. But thats what you get when eating in an open fire restaurant. Would definitely come back!
This restaurant is so so good! I love the original location in Shoreditch, but this location has a more laid-back vibe that makes it versatile and ideal for many occasions. The food is masterfully created and the drink selection is exceptional. The espresso martini on tap is also a nice touch. Can’t wait to go back and highly recommend!
What a gem!!! The service was excellent, like a well oiled machine. Everyone working had a great knowledge about the food and drinks and went to great lengths to make all visitors feel welcome.
The food is on another level, hard to comment. As the kitchen is open you can see the compassion and care that is put in every dish. Can’t fault any of the dishes we had but have to highlight the mutton chops. Melt in the mouth comfort food. Guys you’ve knocked it out of the ballpark!!!
Food great. Price point, menu design and service were bad. There's a lot of hype around Brat. The wood grill intoxicates you as you walk in. However, for the price point (we paid £178 for 2 people), there are way better restaurants in London.
Starters
The cocktails are average. I would focus on the wine list or soft drinks next time. Oysters were absolute bangers. Great aperitif. However, the starters or 'small plates' perplex me a bit because some of them are priced WAY high. We had the sprouts, leeks and a couple of others which come out as they're ready. They're a distraction. Avoid unless there's something that really catches your eye.
Main
This is where Brat are hitting home runs. A whole lemon sole, a whole beef rib ON THE WOOD GRILL. We had the pork chop and it was absolutely amazing. The sole and gurnard on the next table also looked fantastic. Spend your money on these showstoppers and dress around it with potatoes/salad/winter greens.
Dessert and service
The service for the first half was ok/fairly good. Things fell off a cliff after mains though. So much so that multiple tables were having to wave down waiting staff. We sacked off the idea of dessert and waited 10 mins for the opportunity to ask for our bill.
Conclusion
The experience feels unrefined. Avoid the cocktails and small plates unless the kitchen agrees to prep your small plates to serve with the mains (good luck). They're mostly a waste of money. Spend on the mains as they're the absolute star of the show. Service needs drastic improvement. You can find incredible food AND service for £90 a head in London. Not here.
Gorgeous space but food was a let down. The anchovy bread was nothing special - a plain grilled pita pocket with salty anchovies on top. The John Dory was a small, grilled fish that tasted only of butter and flaky white fish meat.
